FAQ's
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE?
I utilize a diverse selection of high-quality yarns, metals, gemstones, wood, resin, and beads in various shapes and sizes, as well as any other materials that capture my interest, such as seashells and stones found on the beach or vintage jewelry from a thrift store.
For my reclaimed yarns, I focus on natural fibers. However, some fiber blends may contain a small amount of synthetic fiber providing the majority of the fiber is natural.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS OF RECLAIMING YARN?
Every skein begins with the search for the perfect sweater to reclaim. I travel to thrift stores throughout the Pacific Northwest, sorting through racks of clothing in search of quality knitted and crocheted garments made from at least 50% natural fibers. The best finds are pieces that can be carefully unraveled into long, continuous strands of yarn.
Before any reclaiming begins, each garment is thoroughly washed and dried. Once clean, I carefully take apart each section by hand and gently unwind the yarn. Depending on the garment’s construction and condition, this process can take several hours to complete.
After the yarn has been fully reclaimed, it is rewound into fresh skeins using my yarn winder. Each skein is then weighed, measured, and labeled with its fiber content, weight, and approximate yardage.
Please Note- Because I work to rescue and reuse as much yarn as possible, there may occasionally be small joins where the yarn broke during the reclaiming process. Instead of discarding usable sections, I carefully reconnect them with small knots. I try and keep these joins to a minimum.
WHY RECLAIMED YARN & THE BENEFITS OF USING IT
I started reclaiming yarn because I wanted access to quality natural fibers without the high price tag. Most affordable yarn sold in craft stores is synthetic, while fibers like merino wool, cotton, alpaca, and cashmere can be expensive — especially for larger projects. A handmade sweater can easily require six or more skeins, making the cost of new yarn add up quickly.
By reclaiming yarn from thrifted sweaters, I can turn a single secondhand garment into multiple skeins of high-quality natural-fiber yarn at a fraction of the cost of buying new. This allows me to offer beautiful, affordable yarn while also helping reduce textile waste and keeping usable materials out of landfills.
Reclaiming yarn is a small way to make crafting more accessible, sustainable, and environmentally conscious without sacrificing quality.

I appreciate you taking the time to visit. My name is Deb, and I've spent my entire life in the Pacific Northwest, except for a couple of years spent in Texas. After returning from Texas, I discovered a newfound admiration for the beauty of the place I proudly call home. I had never truly understood how much I cherished the Douglass firs, crows, seagulls, the scent of saltwater, and the RAIN of all things. This space serves as my avenue to share this chapter of my life with others and to sprinkle a bit of joy along the journey.
